A squad from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrived in Ahmedabad and travelled to Gandhinagar to investigate the death of four members of a Dingucha family on the Canadian-American border last year. The crime branch police in Ahmedabad coordinated with the team for the purpose. Chaitanya Mandlik, DCP (crime), said that the team had the list of persons suspected to be associated with the case. The local police helped them get or verify details,” he said.
In January 2022, four members of the Patel family's bodies were discovered close to Winnipeg, Manitoba, along the Canada-US border. Fenil Patel, an immigration agent, was detained by Gujarat police, but it's thought that a few others detained in the US may be connected to the case.
Sources privy to the developments said the team inquired about the whereabouts of five persons - all immigration agents - based in or operating from Ahmedabad, Anand and Vadodara.
According to sources, other suspected cases of illegal immigration may also be investigated, including the methods used. On the basis of fraudulent credentials, including letters from Canadian colleges, it is believed that certain cases of illegal immigration have occurred.
