Former UP CM and legendary socialist leader Late Mulayam Singh Yadav and acclaimed medic Dilip Mahalanabis received the Padma Vibhushan posthumously.
Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty received the Padma Bhushan at the second civil investiture event for the Padma awards. She was joined by her husband, Infosys founder Narayan Murthy, and daughter Akshata, who is married to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The Samajwadi patriarch’s son, former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, who was seen wearing the party’s trademark red cap, received the Padma Vibhushan on Mulayam’s behalf. Mahalanabis’ Padma on the other hand, was received by his nephew Susham Gupta. Acclaimed singer Vani Jairam’s Padma Bhushan, conferred on her posthumously, was received by sister Uma Mani.
President Murmu also conferred the Padma awards on physicist Deepak Dhar, known for his long-standing research career in statistical physics, novelist S L Bhyrappa, Vedic scholar Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, as well as Odisha’s educationist Antaryami Mishra and genetic medicine specialist Dr Ishwar Chander Verma. Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon and music director M M Keeravaani, whose original composition "Naatu Naatu" won the Oscar, also received the Padma Shri. The event's audience applauded Keeravaani the loudly.
Other Padma recipients included Madhya Pradesh’s Ramesh Parmar and Shanti Parmar, who make dolls using recycled cloth, Gujarati folk artiste Paresh Rathwa, veteran Bidri craft artist from Karnataka, among others.
