Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday offered prayers at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, a day ahead of the start of the Punjab leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
On Tuesday afternoon, after finishing the march's Haryana leg in the Ambala district, he arrived at the Amritsar airport. Gandhi visited the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple while wearing a turban. Along with other party leaders, Gandhi was accompanied by the leader of the Punjab Congress, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, the leader of the opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, and the local MP, Gurjit Singh Aujla. Many Punjab Congress leaders were unaware of Gandhi's visit to Amritsar until Tuesday morning. Gandhi will visit the Golden Temple, Congress General Secretary for Communications Jairam Ramesh had earlier in the day informed media in Ambala. After his Amritsar visit, Gandhi will return to Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib today evening.
