According to media reports, Jair Bolsonaro's supporters invaded the Congress building, presidential palace, and ministry buildings in Brazil. Images posted on social media showed thousands of people entering the Congress building in the nation's capital Brasilia while wearing the yellow and green flag of Brazi.
The attack occurred after a demonstration against Luis Inacio Lula da Silva's inauguration by the former president's supporters last week. Following the break, officials in Brasilia roped off the area around the parliament building, according to media, which also stated that hundreds of Jair Bolsonaro supporters broke through, marched up ramps, and congregated on a roof.
The startling images on social media were similar to the January 6, 2021 storming of the US Capitol building by supporters of then-president Donald Trump, who has been a Jair Bolsonaro ally. Security personnel fired tear gas to put a stop to the protests.
In the second round of the presidential election in October of last year, Lula barely defeated Jair Bolsonaro. He came to Florida in the US, where Donald Trump currently resides, after leaving Brazil in December.
