New Delhi: Gangster Satinderjit Singh Brar alias Goldy Brar, main accused in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, is now among the top 25 most wanted fugitives in Canada.
The Be On Look Out (BOLO) Programme, a non-profit organisation that publicises police fugitive cases to raise awareness, has revised its list of the top 25 wanted criminals, according to a statement from the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi.
“Interpol-Ottawa’s Fugitive Apprehension Support Team (FAST) has added fugitive ‘Goldy’ Brar as the latest addition to the top 25 list,” the statement said. Brar’s life-size cutout among all 25 fugitives has been displayed at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square, according to the BOLO Programme list. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is investigating the allegations against Brar originating from India. “The RCMP is dedicated to supporting its international policing partners and is working closely with Indian law enforcement to ensure that justice is provided to the victims,” the statement added.
Brar, who entered Canada in 2017 on a student visa, allegedly claimed responsibility for Moosewala's murder, which occurred on May 29, 2022, in Punjab's Mansa. In addition, he is charged with planning the targeted assassinations of at least two more people, as well as with attempted murder, murder conspiracy, and illegal arms trafficking in India.
The 29-year-old is accused of committing these crimes while being in Canada and is currently under investigation, but is not charged with any criminal offences in the country, the statement said.
The offences Brar allegedly committed in India are very serious in nature and merit the interest of the police in Canada, the statement issued by the Canadian High Commission read. It added he “is believed to be in Canada and represents a risk to public safety.”
