Covid-19 instances have been slowly rising while attention has been focused on the recent spike in flu infections across India. Although overall detections stay very low and there has been no increase in fatalities over the past three weeks, there has been a steady rise in Covid infections.

India registered a week on-week spike of 63% in the seven days. This followed a 39% increase in the previous week and a 13% rise in the week before.

According to the media's Covid database, 1,898 new Covid instances were reported in the nation last week, up from 1,163 and 839 cases each in the two weeks prior. Although these figures are not yet significant, the steady increase would be cause for concern.

India's spike occurred in July of last year, when weekly infections peaked at 140,000 from July 18 to 25, marking the longest stretch of increase since then. In reality, cases have been edging up for five straight weeks, with the first two weeks seeing marginal increases.
