Sometimes small alertness can save so many lives. One such incident happened in Rajkot (Gujarat), where a 17-year-old girl showed high level of decisiveness in split second.
Jatin Bharad who is the Trustee of Bharad Schools located in Rajkot city says, “Bhargavi Vyas is studying in 12th grade in our school. On 4th February due to annual function in school, the school started in the afternoon instead of morning. She was the first person to be picked up by her school bus from her residence. On her way, as she was alone in the bus and known to driver Haroonbhai, she was sitting on first seat and casually chatting with driver while he drove the bus. While driving, Haroonbhai suddenly suffered a heart attack.”
Talking to Asian Voice, Bhargavi said that, “suddenly while chatting with me, his speech started fumbling. I instantly walked to him to find what happened, but he was speechless by that time. I tried to touch him, but he immediately fell on the steering wheel while the bus was running on its course. I saw that the road was full of traffic, especially of school children who were cycling. Not only that there was a traffic signal at a distance of around 100 metres where several vehicles waited for Green light. It was an impending disaster about to happen since no one was there to pull the brakes. I immediately took charge of the the steering wheel in my hand and swung it to one side and allowed the bus to hit the roadside electric sub-station and brought the bus to a halt.”
According to Bharad, “it was indeed a very brave act by the little girl. We have also honoured her for showing the presence of mind.” After the accident, a crowd of people gathered around the vehicle and helped to shift Haroonbhai to Government Hospital in an ambulance.
Bhargavi whose father owns a small business says, “I understood that I myself might be in trouble if the moving bus hits the electric sub-station. But, I had a split second to take the call and looking at the innocent people on road who would be hit in next few seconds, I took the risk on myself.”
