Faced with the demand of opposition parties for removal of Manipur CM N Biren Singh, home minister Amit Shah said there is need to tread cautiously in a volatile situation and cautioned that every move can have consequences.

The removal of Biren Singh, who has been accused of inaction, emerged as the key issue during the 3-hour long deliberations over the ethnic violence in Manipur at the all party meeting, chaired by Shah.

Shah told the meeting that the government is making all efforts to restore peace in the state and bring about ethnic reconciliation, while seeking help from all parties for return of normalcy.

The home minister maintained that the Centre has spared no efforts to ensure early return of peace to the state which has witnessed ethnic strife for more than 50 days, triggered by the High Court order to explore reservation for Meities. The meeting, the first since violence broke out, saw the opposition parties also complaining about PM Narendra Modi’s alleged silence and demanding that an all party delegation be allowed to visit the strife-torn state.
