After the Xi -Putin summit, Moscow brushes aside concerns that Russia’s ties with China could hurt its relations with India as wishful thinking. During his "peace mission" to Moscow last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping praised Vladimir Putin's "strong leadership," which helped Russia's international standing.

“There was a profusion of analysis these days of the outcomes of Xi Jinping’s Russia visit. The impression as though various reputable Indian experts almost dream of Russia-China ties harming Russia-India strategic alignment. A wishful thinking case in point!” said Russian ambassador to Indian Denis Alipov in a tweet.

Alipov was responding to the analyses in the media about the outcome of Xi’s visit to Russia. The two leaders, without mentioning the G20, which is now being led by India, also strongly condemned the use of what they referred to as unimportant matters to water down the agenda of global forums. Due to their belief that the G20 is not the appropriate platform to debate security-related problems, both Russia and China oppose bringing up the Ukraine issue there.

As a result, the G20 meeting of the finance and foreign ministers, which was hosted by India, ended without a unified communique since there was no agreement on the Ukraine problem. However, Russia has applauded India's handling of the G20, as stated previously by Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister, who added that Russia welcomes "the responsible stand India is taking on key global agendas."
