According to reports, The Vedanta Group and 30 Japanese companies have agreed to work together to create an environment for the production of semiconductors. The firm has committed $20 billion to the construction of a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dholera in partnership with Taiwanese chipmaker Foxconn.

The collaborations with the Japanese firms will aid in developing the Indian semiconductor and glass display manufacturing system.

Akarsh Hebbar, global MD (display and semiconductor business), Vedanta said that “Vedanta is focused on taking the lead in creating the electronics industry ecosystem rather than just technology transfers. This comprehensive plan can generate business opportunities of over $40 bn for our partners in the coming years.”

“The Dholera region in Gujarat shall be developed along the lines of global science parks and has the entire required infrastructure. With Vedanta acting as an anchor unit, the region will be developed for 1,000+ MSMEs to create a sustainable economic environment for hi-tech SCM,” said Vijay Nehra, director of Technology Mission, Gujarat.

Vedanta-Foxconn and the state government have signed an MOU to establish the semiconductor fabrication, display fabrication, and semiconductor assembly and testing units here. The project has the potential to employ at least 100,000 people, according to the business.
