India's leading stock exchange BSE reported that in 148 days, 10 million additional registered investor accounts were added to its platform, bringing the total to 120 million. Between July 18 and December 13, the exchange added 10 million investor accounts, according to a statement from BSE.

In comparison, the exchange took 124, 91, 85 and 107 days for the previous milestones of 110 million, 100 million, 90 million and 80 million, respectively. “BSE crossed the milestone of 120 million registered users based on unique client code (UCC) on December 13, 2022,” the exchange said. Of the 120 million users, 42% fall in the 30 to 40 age brackets, followed by 23% in 20-30 years and 11% in the 40-50 age bracket.

Maharashtra has the highest percentage of investors among the states, accounting for 20% of the total investors. Gujarat ranked second with 10%. Given that the great majority of trading volume is on rival exchange NSE, the exchange did not say how many of these accounts are active or are only used for mutual fund investments. Founded in 1875, BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) is the world’s fastest stock exchange with a speed of 6 microseconds.
