Jagdish Trivedi was born to teacher parents in a modest Indian family. Spending his childhood in a small village called Gujarvati, in Surendranagar district of Gujarat, Trivedi struggled his way up to become a well known Gujarati humorist.
Today at 54, Trivedi has completed three PhDs, has authored 60 books. Besides India he has been abroad 76 times and performed at 1000 shows in the US alone. 4 years ago Trivedi had pledged all his future incomes with a minimum donation of INR 110 million (£1.09m) from his personal earnings for children’s education. During this period Trivedi continued his studies and went to complete PhD not once, twice but three times. In fact a student has done a doctorate on the 60 odd books written by Jagdish Trivedi. In addition to this, two students under official guidance of Trivedi, have also completed their doctorates.
Keeping up with his pledge, Trivedi has already spent INR 25 million (approximately £250,000) to inaugurate 6 schools in the last three years. The seventh one will be inaugurated on 9 February 2022 in presence of ministers, political leaders and saints.
Trivedi started with two schools in Thangadh, a small town in Gujarat where his parents served as teachers during their early days. The school had three broken rooms. Trivedi created schools with six classrooms, corridor, toilet blocks and compound walls. After that he constructed a school in Sayla located in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, in an area where thousands of stone crusher labourers and their families live, but they do not have a school where their children could study. The sixth school was made for the children of a tribe of snake charmers near a small town called Chotila town in the same district.
He gives uniforms, books etc. to each child year on year and also gives facilities like library, water cooler, fans, lights etc. to each school. Currently around 1000 children have benefitted from the schools and the available facilities. Trivedi's dream is to build at least one school in each district of Gujarat. Today Jagdish Trivedi is not only one of the most sought after comedy artists in Gujarat, but has also won awards like Rashtriya Gaurav Purashkar and Gujarati Sahitya Parishad’s Jyotindra Dave Partisohikis - the ultimate award for a Gujarati comedy artist. Trivedi has also won all 5 different awards given by the Gujarati Sahitya Academy.
