Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of 20-year-old student Arjun Singh.

Arjun, who studied at Nottingham Trent University, was assaulted in Nottingham city centre on Saturday 18th January but died in hospital the following day. Police have said, despite speculation from the public, they are not treating the incident as knife-related.

The three men, aged 20, 22 and 23, have been arrested in connection with the murder investigation.

Speaking to local press Detective Inspector Richard Monk, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Both men have been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of our inquiries into this tragic incident.

“The 20-year-old man also arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody. We are aware that there has been a lot of speculation in the public around this being a knife-related incident. From the information available at this time, we are not treating this matter as knife-related. I would like to reiterate that the family of Arjun have expressed their wishes to retain their privacy at this incredibly difficult time.” Meanwhile, the city’s Sikh community held a vigil to honour Arjun’s life and pay respect to his family on Wednesday 22nd January near where he was attacked.   The vigil was organised by Sikh Youth UK, Sikh Temples in Nottingham, the Sikh community youth service, G.A.D. Gym in Derby and both Nottingham Trent and University of Nottingham's Sikh societies.

Nottingham Trent University has said it is offering support to students and staff affected by the news. A university spokesperson added: “We are shocked and saddened to have learned of the death of Arjun Singh over the weekend. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
