Winning candidates see lower vote share in Punjab, Goa polls

NEW DELHI: A report suggests that winners in the recently concluded assembly polls in Goa and Punjab show as much as an 8 per cent decline in their average vote share. An analysis of the voting share of candidates who won the polls, by Association for Democratic Reforms, showed that their vote share dropped to 43 and 48 per cent in Punjab and Goa, respectively. Delhi-based ADR, in its report, said, "This reflects an increase of 40 per cent in the number of political parties that contested in 2017 from 2012." It also said that 18 winners won with 50 per cent and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.
