New Delhi: The Lok Sabha heated up when members of the Congress and, the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal indulged in an argument over alleged atrocities on Dalits in Punjab. Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia accused the Akali Dal-BJP government of wrongdoing the Dalits and women in the state. Union minister and daughter-in-law of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Harsimrat Kaur Badal hit back at the Congress for politicising a “gang war”. The Congress, TMC and RJD staged a walk-out with the BJP lashing out at the Congress for using the parliamentary forum to “defame” a state government. During zero hour, Scindia cited figures to attack the Punjab regime, “Every 18 minutes, there is a case of Dalit atrocity. Every day three Dalit women are raped.” While Speaker Sumitra Mahajan expunged Scindia’s references to the Badal family, minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy argued Harsimrat should be given a chance to present her side.
