Maa, Mother, Madre, Maman... whatever the language or culture, the emotions regarding mums will be the same. Mothers are the driving force of all families and the inspiration behind children doing well in life. Were it not for our mothers, we would not have been able to achieve most of the things we have in our lives. Our mothers have sacrificed many things and spent sleepless nights tending to our needs. We even rely on our mums to do the smallest of things for us even when we grow old because we know she would happily do them for us, without any hesitation. Although mothers should be saluted and celebrated on a daily basis, they get a day dedicated to them every year in March, when she can relax and let her kids pamper her and make her feel the love and respect they have for her. Here we present you some gift ideas and suggestions on where to go, if you choose to dine out on the day with your mum.
Mothers' Day Gift Ideas:
- Why not buy your mum a beautiful sari or salwar? There are some outstanding choices available in Asian boutiques. If you are unable to go shopping yourself, then you can make a purchase online as well. There are many online shopping websites that sell a range of designer saris at affordable rates.
- Remember the bangles or the necklace your mum had her eyes on but never got round to buying them? Well, why don't you use this occasion to gift it to her? She will be delighted as well as touched that you remembered something which she had forgotten about.
- Flowers and chocolates are the most conventional gifts, but that doesn't mean it is out of season to do so. Your mother would be just as delighted to receive them as her Mothers' day gift. However, if your mum is more into gardening, why not buy her an exotic garden plant instead? She'd be able to plant it in her back garden; plus the plant would last much longer than a bunch of flowers.
- Your mum works hard all year round and deserves a little break. Take her to the spa to be pampered. If you're a guy, gift her spa vouchers instead. They will make a great gift as this would give her the opportunity to unwind and have that much needed rest she deserves.
- Why not cook something for her? As a student, when I had no money to buy my mum a gift, I used to make Gajar ka Halwa and Puri for her on Mothers' Day and her birthdays. The tradition of cooking something special for her continues even though I do buy her a gift as well. Why not make the extra effort to cook something for your mum. Even a small cake would be able to bring a smile to your mother's lips.
