The "Egg-tastic" Runny Egg

Dunking your piece of bread in runny yolk is the traditional breakfast which not many have the time to enjoy anymore.

However, a Leicester business hopes its easy-to-prepare version of the boiled egg will make more people choose to have this as a breakfast option again.

The company, Just Egg is making a pre-packed product which the creators state that only five minutes are required in hot water in order to make the perfect runny egg. Pankaj Pancholi, the managing director of Just Egg states, “To make a perfect egg is always difficult because some people say you should boil it for five minutes, and others say three minutes.

"The different times are based on things like if you store the egg in a fridge or a cupboard.

"What we have here is an ideal way of dealing with this problem."

The company boils approximately 1.5 million eggs a week.

The pasteurised egg called the Yowk, arrives in a plastic pot, having already been cooked in its shell, using the favoured method by many chefs, “sous vide”. This is the modern equivalent of boiling the egg in the bag. 

Mr Pancholi said Just Egg, which had a turnover of £4.5 million last year, had certified the UK production rights because of the 12-year-old firm's adroitness with everything related to eggs.

He further claimed that two years ago, Just Egg became the first UK company to initiate the ready-to-eat twin hard-boiled egg packs for the retail market.

Yowk won two honours in March's Food Innovation Awards in London, for the Best Convenience Food and the Fresh Ideas Award.
