A family were left distraught after hundreds of pounds in precious family jewellery went missing from their home in Solihull. The family reported the loss of several trinkets, necklaces, jewels and cash that were not only worth their weight in gold, but had great sentimental worth. Asian gold is well-known for being 18 to 24 carat, often decorated with semi-precious stones, and for being passed down to new brides.
One of the family members said in a statement to 'The Birmingham Mail': “I am devastated – several items have been passed through my family for generations.” Thieves got away with a large quantity of ornate necklaces, earrings and jewel-encrusted bangles after breaking into the property in Yewhurst Road while the family were out in the city. Several empty (valueless)boxes were found discarded under a bridge: “but obviously the jewellery was not found” stated Detective Constable Jon Rankin.
The West Midlands Police have released several photos of the shiny air looms in an attempt to trace the priceless items and intercept them before they can be sold on the black market. Rankin added: “The family are understandably shocked and upset by the break-in. They are desperate to recover the jewellery.”
