BJP releases list of 43 names for Haryana polls
Chandigarh: Seven women and 11 youth are among the first list of 43 candidates the BJP announced last week for the upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana. The names were cleared after a marathon meeting of the newly-constituted Central Election Committee chaired by party president Amit Shah and attended among others by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Among those nominated are Premlata Singh from Uchan Kalan. She is the wife of former Congress leader Birendra Singh who recently joined the BJP along with several leaders and workers. Prominent party leader Abhimanyu Singh will contest from Narnaund and Ramvilas Sharma has been nominated from Narnaul.
Panipat youth makes device to turn breath into words
Gurgaon: A Panipat youth Arsh Shah Dilbagi has developed a device that helps people with developmental disabilities, like Locked-In Syndrome and ALS, communicate, using only their breath. The device, called 'TALK', uses signals from a person's breath via Morse code, picked up by a sensor, and then converts them into speech. Dilbagi, a student of DAV International School, Panipat, says the device even allows almost entirely speech impaired and paralyzed people to communicate like never before.
Punjab has a right to special package, says Sukhbir
Amritsar: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has asked the Centre for special economic assistance for the state for its war against terrorism. Asserting that it is the legitimate right of Punjab to get a financial package for suffering during militancy and its after effects, Badal said in Amritsar that he and chief minister Parkash Singh Badal would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitely to press their demand. He has demanded tax concessions for Punjab on the pattern of hill states like Himachal Pradesh.
