During the Chinese leader's visit to Ahmedabad, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between China Development Bank (CDB) and Gujarat's Industrial Extension Bureau (iNDEXTb) for financing industrial projects in the state.
This memorandum will be in addition to the two MoUs - one between the Gujarat government and the Guangdong province of China; and the other between Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Chinese city of Guangzhou - that are to be signed during Xi's visit.
Sources in the state government said Xi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in a key business meeting on September 17 in Ahmedabad. The state government has invited top business leaders and honchos from banking and financial sector to participate in the business meet with the Chinese delegation. The sources further said CDB will give a commitment to finance a special Chinese Industrial Park and other industrial projects in Gujarat. CDB and some Chinese companies are taking keen interest in the development of Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro rail project, ports and other industrial activities in the state, sources said.
September 17 is also Modi's birthday. According to the information, Xi will arrive at Ahmedabad airport on September 17 at around 2.30 pm. Thereafter, the Indian PM and the Chinese leader will attend a high-level business meeting and oversee the signing of three MoUs by top officials of both sides. “In the evening, the two leaders will go to Sabarmati Ashram and the riverfront. Later, they will have dinner together and leave for Delhi,” said a source. The Gujarat government's MoU with Guangdong province will focus on development of the two provinces in industry, business, energy development, water resources management and environment conservation. It will also aim to strengthen cultural ties and increase people-to-people contact. The MoU between Guangzhou and AMC is for the development of the two cities as sister cities.
