Asian Voice contributor wins Czech press prize

Former FT journalist Roger Aitken and contributor to Asian Voice’s business sections and the annual Finance, Banking & Insurace (FBI) magazine,has won the Czech Tourism’s press prize for 2014 at a special ceremony during the World Travel Market (WTM) industry show this November at London’s ExCel centre.

 Czech Tourism, who exhibited at the annual WTM event along with City of Pilsen representatives and other partners, said the award was in recognition of Aitken’s “significant contribution” to the promotion of the Czech Republic as a tourist destination, according to a certificate signed by Rostislav Vondruska, Czech Tourism’s General Director.

Asian Voice has over the past year run travel features on several destinations in the Czech Republic - including Prague, the capital, and Ostrava, the third biggest city. Aitken said he was “immensely touched” to receive the award on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and the historical events that took place in Prague.

The trade prize was presented to Thomas Rast, Product Manager at London-based Voyages Jules Verne (www.vjv.com), which specialises in providing cultural tours around the world. For the Czech Republic the operator arranges week-long packages taking in Prague followed by several nights in Marienbad, Pilsen, the European Capital of Culture for 2015, and Ceske Krumlov.
