Chennai: Customs authorities nabbed a 35-year-old native of Myanmar when he arrived from Kuala Lumpur and found that he had consumed 1kg of gold pellets. It took the authorities seven hours to retrieve the stones after the doctors gave him an enema. Sources said Hawai Du arrived in the city on a visit visa. Customs authorities who have upped the ante since recent large scale seizures suspected the passenger of carrying gold. They stopped him and he began arguing about being unwell and having stomach ache. He was taken to a hospital and a scan showed small tablets of gold inside his stomach. Doctors recovered 124 gold tablets weighing one kilogram and worth Rs 3000,000. On interrogation, he confessed to his role in the smuggling. He said he as asked to carry the gold to the city by someone in Myanmar.
