The 71 year-old Scottish comedian discovered that his maternal great-grandmother had been a British woman who was born in Bangalore, and, that further back in his ancestral line, he also had some Indian blood.
The BBC One programme 'Who do you think you are' actually went to India to follow the steps of his maternal great-great-grandfather, Daniel Doyle, who fought in the Royal Horse Artillery of India in the 19th century. Doyle was promoted for good conduct but was also an alcoholic who died in poverty after contracting Syphilis.
Originally from Glasgow, Connelly was very moved by the whole revelation.
