Brit-Indian student beats thousands to Spanish spelling bee title

Mihir Jagwani, a Year 7 student of Indian origin from Whitgift School in South Croydon, has beaten tens of thousands of students from across the country to win a competitive spelling bee – in Spanish. He won the national final of the Routes into Languages Spelling Bee in Cambridge.

Mihir had to correctly translate and spell the most number of words in Spanish in just 60 seconds.

More than 75,000 youngsters from 580 schools across the country took part in this year's competition at Anglia Ruskin University.
