The protesting wrestlers, led by Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshee Malikkh, held a round of talks with sports minister Anurag Thakur at his official residence and thereafter decided to suspend their protest till June 15.
The suspension of protests came after the government gave an assurance that Delhi Police will file its chargesheet into the allegations of sexual harassment against Wrestling Federation of India’s former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by June 15. The government has also assured the wrestlers that the FIRs filed against the wrestlers, coaches and their supporters, for forcefully marching towards the new Parliament building on May 28, will be withdrawn.
Ready to face questioning: Brij Bhushan
Brij Bhushan said that he was ready to face further questioning by Delhi police over allegations of sexual harassment against him. Brij Bhushan said that he has already been questioned twice. Reiterating that he has done nothing wrong, he said, “I have come to Delhi on a personal visit. I am very much available at my official accommodation. Contrary to media reports, I have not been summoned by the police for another round of questioning. I have no information. But if the police want to grill me further, I am ready to face the investigative agencies.” Brij Bhushan also clarified that no police team from Delhi visited his stronghold of Gonda district to question his personal staff and supporters.
