BCCI president-elect Sourav Ganguly said that he would wait for the national selectors to spell out their plans on MS Dhoni. “I will talk to the selectors about him when I meet them on October 24 during the selection meeting for the T20 series against Bangladesh. I will give my opinion after that,” Ganguly said.

“The picture might seem unclear from the outside, but the team management surely has something in mind. So I will ask the selectors and the captain. Coach (Shastri) won’t be present at the meeting as per the BCCI’s amended constitution,” Ganguly said. “We will also have to find out what Dhoni wants. I will speak to him if necessary,” he added.

Can’t depend on few individuals to win big events, says MSD

During a promotional event in Delhi, Dhoni spoke about what all was needed to build a team.

“What you want to achieve as a team is to win the tournament but that’s a long-term goal. Ultimately, what you do is to break it into smaller things,” Dhoni said.

India have been struggling to come up with a settled batting lineup in shorter formats. How does he look at the scenario? “It’s not always about few of the individuals performing a lot better than the whole lot. When it comes to winning a big tournament, you need a team to perform.”
