Jaydev Unadkat’s love affair with the red ball is continuing in his maiden County cricket season too. The left-arm pacer produced a superb nine-wicket haul (3-23 & 6-94) to help Sussex score a 15 run thrilling win over Leicestershire in a County Championships Division 2 match last week. Unadkat’s match winning spell was even more special since came in his home debut at the Central County Ground in Hove, and under the captaincy of his India and Saurashtra teammate Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored 26 & 23.
It was just his second County Championship match for Sussex.
In the second innings, overcoming a sore ankle, Unadkat finished with figures of six for 94 after bowling 32.4 overs, with his final four wickets coming in the last hour in a sensational 31-ball final burst. Leicestershire, who nearly pulled off the chase, were 453 for six before Unadkat took their final four wickets to bowl them out for 483 to give Sussex their second County Championship win of the season.
Meanwhile, Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Jayant Yadav enjoyed fine County Championship debuts, taking five wickets each. Ignored for the ODI World Cup, leg-spinner Chahal took 3-63 (including a ripper to clean up Lyndon James's off-stump) & 2-43 for Kent, who drew their Division One match against Nottinghamshire.
