A 13-year-old Harrow schoolgirl, Sanaya Anand, has been selected to represent England at the Commonwealth Karate Championships in Glasgow from November 5-8, 2026.
A pupil at Nower Hill High School, Sanaya began karate at six and has trained for around seven years. She now trains four times a week at KML Karate Club under Sensei Jerome Kumedzina, balancing the sport with competitions and her studies.
Her parents, Atish and Deepa Anand, said what started as a childhood hobby has grown into a serious sporting pursuit.
Sanaya Anand began karate at six as a hobby and has spent the past seven years developing into a disciplined competitor. She earned her England selection through a formal assessment and now trains four times a week at KML Karate Club, while also practising with her father, Atish.
Her family called the selection a proud achievement. Sanaya hopes to win a medal at the Commonwealth Karate Championships in Glasgow from November 5-8 and build a long-term international career in the sport.
