An adventurous father and son team from Luton will this Sunday (June 21) join thousands of participants for the 54-mile London to Brighton Bike Ride in aid of the British Heart Foundation. A few leisurely jogging sessions prompted Harsukh Soni and his 26-year-old son Shiv, pictured, to sign up to this fundraiser, which this year marks its 40th anniversary.

The pair has so far raised around £1,300 towards their £3,000 target. Harsukh Soni, who will turn 53 on June 25, said his employer, Santander, where he works as the UK Head of Provisions in Finance, would match fund the amount raised. Shiv, who also works at Santander in London and is also studying for a qualification in accountancy, said this Sunday would be a memorable and special day, given it’s also Father’s Day.

Harsukh, who was born in the Kenyan capital Nairobi and came to the UK aged 23, said he hasn’t ridden a bicycle for over 30 years and although a tad nervous, he is very excited and up for the challenge. He is married to Nila and the couple also have another son, Kishan, aged 20.

The British Heart Foundation, UK’s number one heart charity, is Santander’s Charity of the Year, which has a fundraising target of £1 million by end of this year. Readers wishing to sponsor Harsukh and Shiv can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/Harsukh-Soni
