Indian cricket legend Mohammad Azharuddin paid a surprise visit to Leicester at the invitation of the Leicester East MP Keith Vaz. Azharuddin, who captained India in major ODI and Test series during the 1990s and was regarded as one of India’s greatest batsmen, was on a private visit to the UK when he accepted Mr Vaz’s invitation to visit Belgrave. Hundreds of people turned out at Lakhani Motors in Belgrave to hear the cricket legend answer questions about his cricketing career. Azharuddin is keen to set up a regular visit to the United Kingdom.
Keith Vaz MP said: “We were delighted to welcome one of India’s greatest captains, it is clear from the crowd that they were delighted to see a real live Indian cricket star. Leicester received him in a way that was fit for a hero.”
