India’s latest golfing sensation Shubhankar Sharma has accepted a special invitation to compete in the Masters tournament, the first Major of the season, to be played at Augusta National Golf Club between April 5 and 8. “Golf is a global game, and throughout our history we have extended invitations to deserving international players not otherwise qualified. Shubhankar Sharma is a remarkable young player and we look forward to welcoming him to Augusta National,” Fred Ridley, chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club said.

Shubhankar, who has won twice in the past four months (Joburg Open and Maybank Championship), had finished T9 at the WGC-Mexico Championship last week after leading till the final round. He will become the fourth Indian to compete in the Masters, following Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal and Anirban Lahiri.
