India’s Women’s Cricket Team opened the country’s Asian Games 2026 gold medal tally with a dominant 147-run win over Sri Lanka in the T20I final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
After opting to bat, India posted a record Asian Games total of 216/3, with Smriti Mandhana scoring 79 off 45 balls, Shafali Verma making 48 off 29 and Richa Ghosh finishing unbeaten on 49 off 22. Mandhana and Shafali added 99 for the opening wicket before India crossed 200.
India’s bowlers then bowled Sri Lanka out for just 69. Deepti Sharma took 3/6, while Shafali Verma, Shreyanka Patil and Shree Charani claimed two wickets each as the defending champions secured a convincing victory.
India’s shooters added several medals to the Asian Games 2026 tally, with Elavenil Valarivan winning silver in the women’s 10m Air Rifle individual event and another silver with Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod in the team event.
India finished second with 1898.0 points, narrowly ahead of hosts Japan (1897.1), while China won gold with a world-record 1904.2. Sonam led India with 634.1, followed by Elavenil with 633.5 and debutant Vidarsa with 630.4.
In the men’s 10m Air Rifle, Himanshu Dhillon won individual silver and teamed up with Rudrankksh Patil and Parth Mane for another silver. Rudrankksh also claimed individual bronze, while Suchika Tariyal won bronze in the women’s Traditional -60kg category in mixed martial arts.
