Anahat Singh created history by becoming the country’s first squash player to win the Junior World title after defeating Egypt’s Ruqayya Salem 3-0 in the girls’ singles final at the World Squash Junior Championships 2026 in Canada.
The 18-year-old top seed won 11-3, 11-7, 11-9, ending Egypt’s 16-year dominance in the event without dropping a single game. In the boys’ category, Aryaveer Dewan was India’s best performer, reaching the last 16.
Anahat, currently ranked No. 20 in the PSA senior world rankings, will look to build on her historic win as squash prepares for its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Union ministers, including Mansukh Mandaviya, Sarbananda Sonowal, Hardeep Singh Puri and Raksha Khadse, congratulated Anahat, calling her victory a proud moment for India and an inspiration for young athletes. They praised her achievement as a sign of India’s growing presence in global sports.
