Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi said “fruitful discussions” were held on developing world-class sports infrastructure and advancing preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2030 to be hosted in Ahmedabad.
A high-level delegation from Commonwealth Sport visited Gujarat on Wednesday as part of early preparations for the Centenary Games, marking their first engagement since Ahmedabad was confirmed as the host city.
The team met senior officials and was set to inspect proposed venues, beginning their visit with a meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. The state government reiterated its commitment to timely, high-quality planning for the Games.

The 2030 Commonwealth Games, awarded to Ahmedabad as the centenary edition by Commonwealth Sport, will mark 100 years of the event since its first edition in Hamilton, Canada in 1930. The decision has also strengthened India’s prospects for hosting the 2036 Olympics. The Commonwealth Games have grown significantly from a small multi-nation event in 1930 to a major global competition, with Australia leading the medal tally at the 2022 Birmingham Games, followed by England, Canada, India and New Zealand.
