While it is desirable to have variety of opinion in “Your Voice” column, it should not be at the expense of lowering standard; as AV is roving goodwill ambassador. AV is the “Guardian”, not the “Sun” of ethnic publications with appreciative regular columns like “Comment, Political Sketchbook, As I See It and Kapil’s Khichdi.”
Most regular contributors are devoted professional people; theologians in their own professions, many with PhD, who put in special effort to contribute high quality writings most readers appreciate. Some have even used AV as stepping stone, now write for other publications as well; have their own column and after literary odyssey, have written books and popular novels. This is indeed unique achievement for “Editorial Board” (EB) for nurturing such talent, editing and encouraging loyal contributors. I wonder where these intellectual writers would be without AV!
There are very few letters from ladies but I would not expect exposure based on gender. In fair and open society like ours, everyone should be treated equally on merit, without favour or being fiduciary. If there is will, there is certainly a way, as EB is fair, not finicky or plutocracy. It is neutral and appreciative of all quality contributions.
