UN Day of Yoga

Tuesday 16th June 2015 08:37 EDT

On 21st June 2015, the whole world will celebrate first United Nations day of Yoga. The credit for such massive celebration must go 100% to Prime Minister Modi. He joins the rank of luminaries like Swami Vivekananda, Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, Srila Prabhupad, Brahma Kumaris, Sri Sri Ravishankar etc. who put Hindu religion and Yoga on the world map.

Global recognition of yoga by international community is praiseworthy in spite of unsavoury labels attached by Christians and Muslims. Yoga as a health practice benefits all, irrespective religion, caste, creed, sex, or nationality. Some non-Hindu groups oppose the practice due to pathological hysteria to anything spoken by Hindus, BJP or Modi. Some Muslims counter Yoga practice by insisting that Hindus must reciprocate by performing “namaz” and “bandagee”.

Not many Indians/Hindus have full knowledge of yoga to be assertively convincing. Hindus utter inane statement that those Muslims who oppose Yoga must leave India. Some Hindu/Indians forget that Sanskrit mantras generate positive energies. Non Sanskrit words from Koran can generate negative energies.

Hindus must not bow and grovel for yoga to be accepted by anti yoga lobby. Purity and divinity must not be compromised to appease individuals or groups.
