Proud to be born in India

It is good to read BJP’s views on the first year of Narendra Modi’s Prime Ministership in India. [(a) Lalubhai Parekh, chairman of Overseas Friends of BJP, page 10 (b) Amit Shah, President BJP, page 17]

About Indians born in India, I am one such Indian and during my life time I have been aware of Indians in Indian favouring Indians born abroad! I am glad that I was born in India - pre-partition - and I am grateful to all Indians who are born and brought up in India as they sustain her.

The Indian diaspora did not always choose to be born outside India - many have suffered and endured discrimination in the Far East (eg Malaysia), in the Caribean (eg Trinidad) as well as in East and South Africa. It is in the rich, white, European/American lands where Indians have prospered and many of them do indeed look down upon Indians like me.

It is good that Mr Modi has raised this topic.
