Reading AV/GS online

Tuesday 19th February 2019 19:53 EST

Although I am a lifelong, devoted subscriber of AV/GS, as I like to read books, novels, periodicals and newspapers, holding them in my hand rather than online, I read part of AV/GS online, mainly on Wednesdays, well before Friday when we normally receive our copies by post.

The main reason is that I prefer to write my letters, articles for AV well in advance, emailing them to AV on Saturday or Sunday and by reading AV on Wednesdays, I may be able to pick-up a subject matter based on news and letters published there in.

While trying to go online, I noticed that we have to pay full price, as if we are buying it from a shop. While I agree that such quality weeklies should not be available completely free online, for free-loaders who contribute nothing financially, I also feel that it should be available either free to subscribers or subscribers paying a small amount in the region of £5 to £10 extra with their subscription while non-subscribers paying full price, as is the norm with many ethnic publications.

We also read AV/GS online when we go on holidays to Spain, while sitting in a 25th floor balcony, with a bottle of cold drink, overlooking beautiful Mediterranean Sea, watching waves rise and ebb, listening to roar of sea waves that reminds us of our wonderful, carefree days in my birth place Dar Es Salaam, one of the most beautiful, scenic seaside cities in the world, with waves from mighty Indian Ocean washing shore line. Even after leaving Dar some 50 years ago, it is still fresh in our hearts as if it was only a month ago!

Lastly may I thank Dineshbhai and R. N. Patel for their mature comments and appreciation of regular letter writers, as well as expedient Editorial aBoard in selecting right letters for publication!
