A top police officer has caused outrage by intimating that people who leave their dooes and windows open, and if they get burgled, they should not expect the crime to be investigated. Now that winter is upon us and days are getting shorter and nights are closing in, burglaries and other crimes will be on the increase.
The tell tale signs would alert burglars that people are not at home and would want to take advantage of the absence of the owners. Some of these burglars have become more daring and get into the house at night even when people are sleeping at home. To try and avoid being victims of crime, it has been suggested that we keep our doors and windows locked at all times and do not open the door to strange people who ring the bell. Keep some lights on when we go out and, better still, invest in a burglar alarm. This way, we can help ourselves and not waste police time on preventable burglaries.
