Lessons of a barbaric beheading

The advancement of knowledge has raised human conscience and the people in the world have moved on. However, in the modern world only Muslims practise this most inhuman and barbaric act of violence. For example Saudi Arabia has been using beheading as a means of capital punishment on a regular basis.
By all accounts Peter was a kind and compassionate person. He had dedicated his life to help ameliorate sufferings of Muslims of all denominations. It is for this reason he went to Syria. He was not against Muslims or Islam. He even got himself converted to Islam and took the Arabic name Abdur-Rahman.
But nothing seems to make any difference to ISIL. They are determined to take revenge by any means against their opposition both real and presumed so that no one dare to raise any voice against them.
It is a problem specific to Muslim society. Only they can resolve this issue. They should realise that these are the type of actions responsible to induce Islam phobia among non-Muslims.
If Muslims really would like to resolve these issues then there is a need to ascertain why there is so much intra-religious violence in Muslim countries and what is the source of such a mindset.
