With reference to Bhupendra M Gandhi and Baroness Shreela Flather letters in Asian Voice dated 22nd July 2017, I will entirely agree with Baroness as she put it rightly that it is not the caste but it is the discrimination we are faced with specially with Hindu women. It is our Hindu culture that we are tolerating discrimination instead of confronting the issue.
Discrimination exist in daily life against different caste when it come to marriage, in work ( in Gujarat there was protest against lower class) in some temples. I have experienced in my life when I was fighting for justice for the rights of women in the temple. Powerful sadhus are suppressing real issues that exist in the society. Our culture is such that weak women are unable to fight their rights but hide the problem under the carpet.
Last year I visited Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) Kerala, where those who are not Hindus are not allowed to visit inside the temple. Is this not discrimination?
I admire our rich Hindu culture that has offered the world with many good universal values. Our hypocrite MP’s who are opposing the legislation are themselves out of touch with reality of life. Is it not better to make improve the discrimination that that exist in the society through good legislation so that humanity prevails through equality. Mahatma Gandhi scarified his life fighting untouchable caste.
Indian s were thrown out of East Africa, because we discriminated natives. It is not better to support the legislation, by making amendments to bring out the best so that society benefits. We Indians are fortunate to be living in UK where minority are looked after through right legislations. Our MP’s should be courageous to face the issues instead of misleading the society. They can influence the government.
