India's cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has adopted the sleepy village of Puttamrajuvari Kandriga in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh under the Sansad Adarsh Grama Yojana (SAGY) as Rajya Sabha member.  Sachin pledged to spend huge amounts on making Kandriga village a model habitation in the country through his MPLAD funds. He waved and greeted the youth who gave him a rousing reception. The village reverberated with ‘Sachin, Sachin’ through his visit. Interacting with women’s self-help groups in the village, Sachin said women should manage development works in the area. “Women are the backbone of the nation and every woman has a role in developing a strong nation,” he said. Sachin said he had dedicated his Bharat Ratna to his mother and also to the mothers of the entire nation.
