Labour councillor, Shakil Ahmed's son, Waheed Ahmed (21), was arrested along with eight family members for heading into Syria. It has been said that Waheed Ahmed's radical beliefs grew increasingly in recent months.

Waheed Ahmed allegedly caused concerns among relatives after he began taking a staunch approach to his faith, as well as attending a “rogue” mosque in Rochdale, where Shakil Ahmed is a councillor.

Waheed Ahmed, a student at Manchester University, studying Politics and Sociology is to be flown home, along with his aunt, two cousins, four children and a cousin's wife after they were arrested in a remote area near the Syrian border.
