A 24 year old woman from Jabalpur committed suicide last week after a heated argument with her husband over actor Aamir Khan's recent remark on the country's rising intolerance. Sonam Pandey, a mother to a three year old daughter consumed poison after the fight.

Her family members rushed a critical Sonam to a hospital where she died after a few hours. Doctors confirmed poison to be the cause of death. Husband Mayank Pandey, who works with an NGO, told the police that their discussion on Aamir's statement led to the argument. His father, a retired veterinary surgeon said Sonam was an Aamir fan and had got annoyed when her husband ridiculed the actor's statements.

Investigating officer at Kotwali police station, OP Singh said, “For now, we're going by the husband's statement. Poison samples have been collected. Her brother, however, said she was being harassed for dowry. The matter is being investigated.”

Aamir Khan recently said his wife had asked whether they should move out of the country since she feared for the safety of their child. The statement had provoked massive retaliation and rebuke.
