With top world leaders, CEOs of leading companies across the globe and noted NRIs participating in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit (VGGIS) and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) events, the Gujarat Government has decided to set up a Central Control Room to ensure foolproof security to the dignitaries.

The control room, to be coordinated by ADGP-level officers, will function 24x7 till the conclusion of all programmes. “The aim is to provide full security not only to the VVIPs at Mahatma Mandir venue but to all the people in the state as we don't want disgruntled elements to create disturbances anywhere. We have alerted the state agencies to ensure coastal and other securities,” said chief secretary D J Pandian. Earlier, he met senior officials of the armed forces and state police in Gandhinagar and briefed them about the preparedness so far.

The meeting was attended by ACS (home), ADGP Promod Kumar, Major General S K Bhanot, Air Vice-Marshal A Nabh, police commissioner of Ahmedabad Shivanand Jha and top officials of Coast Guard, Navy, and national security agencies.

Senior police officials said that the security measures taken by the police were discussed at length in the meeting. “We will conduct more mock drills in coming days to ensure that in emergency situations, the response time is reduced,” added a senior police official. “We have already prepared a lockdown plan for the city in case of any emergency,” he added. Following the meeting with the chief secretary, Ahmedabad police commissioner Shivanand Jha conducted another meeting with senior police officials.

“We have been asked to monitor each and every high risk area of the city, including the hotels,” said a crime branch official.“We are in constant touch with the Special Protection Group (SPG).
