The transgender couple from north Kerala, Zahad and Ziya Paval took to social media to announce the arrival of their baby.
“Finally wait is over, we are thrilled to welcome the new member,” the couple wrote. Zahad is the first transman to deliver a baby, activists working among the LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual) community have confirmed.
Speaking to the media, Ziya stated that they would ask the hospital administration to list Zahad as the father and her as the mother. The baby was delivered via C-section and weighed 2.920 kg. It is fantastic. Father and child are in good health. While thanking everyone who had supported them, she stated, "We haven't decided on the gender yet. She declared, "From now on, Zahad will be the father and I shall be the proud mother."
Both are in good health and can be discharged from the hospital after the necessary rest, according to Dr. C. Sreekumar, head of the gynaecology department at the medical college hospital in Kozhikode. According to him, hospital administrators
will follow a professional's recommendation when "registering role reversal and gender of the new-born."
“It is beautiful, I will be both, father and mother,” Zahad had told media a week before. People working in the area also vouch Ziya will be first transman in the country to father through natural conception. The couple had announced their pregnancy last week.
They both decided to put the hormone treatment on hold and take a chance at becoming parents even though Zahad had undergone breast removal surgery and was waiting to remove her uterus in order to become a man, Zahad was already receiving extensive hormone treatment. "We simply stopped.” We will continue our treatment after six months of the delivery," Zahad had stated, adding that it was a well-considered decision by both. "We will continue our path to become a transman and transwoman.”
