“What harm will learning Hindi do? Many have lost the opportunity of getting central government jobs,” Madras high court observed while hearing a public interest writ petition seeking to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Tamil Nadu, which has refused to do so.
Responding to the observation, made by the first bench of Acting Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice P D Audikesavalu, Tamil Nadu advocate-general R Shunmugasundaram said, “The Tamil Nadu government follows a two-language policy and not a three-language policy as it would be overburdening the students. ” Moreover, no one is stopped from learning Hindi in Tamil Nadu. “There are institutions like the Hindi Prachar Sabha where one can learn Hindi,” he added.
