The Enforcement Directorate said it has taken possession of 15 immovable properties, including a 45-acre land in Coimbatore worth around £5.5million, as part of a money laundering investigation arising from a disproportionate assets case against former environment and telecom minister and DMK leader A Raja, the main accused in the 2G scam who was acquitted. “Investigation established that the properties, including 45 acres of land at Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, were purchased directly using the proceeds of crime generated by A Raja,” the enforcement agency said. The land was purchased in the name of Kovai Shelters Promoters India Pvt Ltd, which, the agency claimed, is a benami company controlled by Raja, who handled important portfolios during the two UPA governments.
