Sudhir Angur (57), the chancellor of Alliance University, was arrested and charged for conspiring and commissioning the killing of the varsity's former vice-chancellor Ayyappa Dore.
Investigators also apprehended a varsity executive, Suraj Singh (29), who, they claimed, had taken part in the slaying of Dore (53). Singh, and a gang of four contract killers now on the run, had hacked Dore to death last week, police claimed. Police said Angur paid Singh and the others £100,000 for the murder. Police have launched a manhunt for the four men who helped Singh kill Dore, police said. Angur and Singh were arrested and a machete, which they suspect was used in the crime, and bloodstained clothes were seized from Singh’s house. Officers found Dore, who was vice-chancellor of Alliance University between 2010 and 2014, with multiple slash wounds just 150 metres from the RT Nagar police station in Bengluru.
