Thiruvananthapuram: Tobacco and real estate baron, Mohammed Nisham has been sentenced to life imprisonment, and fined Rs 71 lakh for the murder of a security guard. A court in Kerala has found him guilty of murdering 50 year old K. Chandrabose, he said was too slow, with his high-end SUV. Nisham slammed his Hummer into the guard, hit him with an iron rod after pinning him against a wall, as the gates of his housing society were slow to open when he returned home late one night.

Chandrabose fought for his life in the hospital for about two weeks, but eventually succumbed to his injuries. The case had attracted nationwide attention, and the Supreme Court had directed the Thrissur district additional sessions court to deliver a verdict by January 31 this year. The convict is no stranger to controversy. In 2013, he uploaded a video on Youtube of his nine-year-old son driving a Ferrari, which went viral and sparked outrage. The police then filed a case against him. He also faces a separate criminal case for allegedly locking up a woman sub-inspector who tried to book him for drink driving in his Rolls Royce.

Nisham is the son of beedi businessman Adakkaparambil Abdul Khadar. He had founded King Beedi Company at Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. He is now the managing director of King Beedi Company. Police records show that he owns 18 high-end cars worth an estimated $4 million, including a Bentley and a Lamborghini.
